Cadillac ATS-V

Thursday, January 29, 2015

In their obsession to compete with Mercedes and BMW, Cadillac is now producing high powered V models of almost every sedan they make.

I drove a CTS-V (The cool wagon one) a while ago for a week. Sure, it was great.

The power, the 6 speed. But no one bought it.

This is another car no one will buy. A compact sedan with 450HP.

But I guess "they have to compete". Not sure anyone in the world associate Cadillac with super powerful small cars yet. Or even if they should.

As you can see, it also has the usual add ons. So now it looks more like a SEMA project than a classy car Cadillac should be known for.

And if you want a proper 6 speed manual, you can already order one with the "regular" 2.0 Liter Turbo version.

Renault Laguna

First, these are, of course, just illustrations.

Second, we don't get the Laguna here. We never have and never will.

But the current generation shares most of its platform with our Nissan Altima.

I do think it is time for the Laguna and the Altima to basically become the same car.

Just like what Ford is doing with the Mondeo/Fusion.

Or what GM is doing with Buick and Opel.

It also just happens that Renault's new front end design could easily be replaced by Nissan's new front end. (Previewed by last year's Sport Sedan Concept.) Both similar shapes.

Toyota Mirai

No matter how much people will hate this car, it is a very big deal.

One of the very first Hydrogen car available for a normal price.

By "normal", I mean $57 500. ( Actually closer to $45 000 with incentives)

Still not cheap. But the lease is $499. And that does includes free hydrogen.

So if you fill up your car once week, you could deduct about $200 from that lease price.

Now its pretty similar to a loaded Camry. Which is quite amazing for such new/futuristic technology.

The range is about 300 miles, and refueling takes 5 minutes.

Toyota will even build fueling stations in the Boston/New York area as well as southern California.

I think this could be really cool.

Mazda CX-3

This looks really nice.

It is smaller and cheaper than the CX-5 (obviously), but I think it looks better.

Plus, it even uses the same 2.0 Liter engine. Which should make it a bit quicker than the larger model.

Automatic is standard on all models.

Cadillac ATS-V

I have to admit, this looks much better than the previous pictures from a few days ago.

That blue color with black wheels was pretty horrible.

Now, especially the darker 4 door, this doesn't look more vulgar than a BMW M3, M4 or Mercedes C Class AMG.

But the overall design of the ATS still looks old. For a new car. And all these adds on make it look so square now.

What you get is a 455HP Twin Turbo 3.6 Liter V6. 2 or 4 doors.
6 speed manual is standard, and an 8 speed auto is an option.

Audi Prologue Concept

So this is supposed to show us Audi's new design direction for its upcoming production models.

I guess, except the new Q7 since that was designed quite a while ago...

From these pictures, I can't decide if it is gorgeous, or just another version of Audi's boring designs.

It sure is different from the current Audis. But at the same time, it feels old.

Almost retro. Especially the rear.

The front is not that new, really. The grille is basically just wider.

Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake

This is yet another wagon we won't be getting in the US.

As Mercedes is making more money selling us the GLA. So again, no car based wagon for us.

Just as we are not getting the new C-Class wagon either. Instead, we will be getting the all new C-Class based GLC next year. Which will replace the GLK.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

These are pictures of the convertible version of the gorgeous 4C.

It does look great. And taking the top off didn't  ruin the look at all.

I just wonder where the top actually goes.

Looks like it could actually be some kind of targa. Like the Corvette Coupe. Where you have to store the top in the trunk.

No matter what , this looks great.

Cadillac CTS-V

Although it seems that the silver car has some kind of a "Assy spoiler option" that ruins the whole thing...

The interior has too much of that Gold/Black combo that reminds me of what these vulgar looking pulldown girls are wearing outside of these sleazy Hollywood Blvd clubs on Thursday nights.

The new CTS in general seems so invisible in traffic. Which is too bad.
This just adds a little. I actually think the grille Cadillac uses on the new V models should just be the standard one.

It just looks better, more upscale. The standard design looks very generic. And a bit cheap.

Otherwise, you now get a 6.2 Liter V8 with 640HP.
But no more manual. It's all 8 speed auto now.
